Fish farm proposal worries some


State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout said she’s all for Wisconsin’s fish farmers finding success. She just doesn’t want their efforts to harm the state’s waters. 

“I want fish farmers to succeed, but not at the expense of our Wisconsin waterways,” Vinehout, D-Alma, wrote recently in a column titled “Speed and Secrecy Kills Democracy.”

In her column, Vinehout cites a number of questionable bills being pushed hastily through the the state Legislature. She goes into more depth about Senate Bill 493, which would allow fish farms to be located on headwater springs. The proposed legislation also would allow dredging in the state’s highest-quality lakes and rivers without those doing the dredging having to obtain permits....

Ken Notes: This may be the problem with a majority in all the branches of state government. Those who are asking the questions can be ignored based on party not the actual value of the question. It may be the job of the press and the citizens to ensure we are passing good laws for the long term. I am an advocate for new agriculture and fish farms are in this class, but lets get this right regarding balance and the environment....
