Methodist church serves as warming center on MLK, Jr. holiday


MADISON (WKOW) – Karen Andro thinks her group's actions can possibly save lives during this frigid cold snap.

Andro is director of Outreach Ministries at the First United Methodist Church in Madison. Their facility will be open tomorrow as a warming center from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

She says their supportive environment will provide a safe place to be – as many government facilities that ordinarily would be open Monday will be closed due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Andro adds that the hazardous wind chill and freezing temperatures make being out in the cold especially dangerous for people who are exposed to the elements.

Notes: I have a question, if EVERY church opened a small room for the homeless would we have a homeless problem. Just a thought???
