Former paper mill executive named Wisconsin`s top forester


A former paper mill executive has been appointed as Wisconsin`s chief state forester, the Department of Natural Resources said.

Fred Souba Jr., who has 40 years of experience in the forest products industry, replaces Paul DeLong, who held the position for 13 years before announcing in August that he was resigning to become senior vice president for conservation of the American Forest Foundation.

"The citizens of Wisconsin can rest assured that our 16 million acres of forest land will be in good hands," DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp said in a statement. "Fred`s experience will help guide the management of these acres to keep them sustainable and economically viable."...
