OPINION: Moratorium warranted


Dunn County officials should be lauded for exercising caution in regard to concentrated animal feeding operations.

A county committee is considering a one-year moratorium on the licensing or expansion of CAFOs that have at least 1,000 animals. There are health, environmental and economic development concerns, Supervisor Diane Morehouse, a member of the Planning Resources and Development Committee, said in a Leader-Telegram story by Pamela Powers last week.

“It seems to me it would be prudent to take some time and bring some science into the discussion,” Morehouse said.

It seems prudent to us as well.
