Indian tribe fights to protect lands and waters – in Wisconsin


The story of an Indian tribe fighting to protect its sacred lands and waters is a subject that is familiar to many of us, given the attention locally to the protest against the pipeline project next to the Standing Rock Sioux reservation in North Dakota. But a similar story is playing out much closer to home with far less attention.

The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin fears possible pollution of the Menominee River and the destruction of sacred sites by a proposed open pit gold and zinc sulfide mine across the Wisconsin-Michigan border only 150 feet from the Menominee River, a major Lake Michigan tributary....
