Wisconsin DNR may buy land once eyed for nuclear plant


A sprawling river bottom in western Wisconsin that was the site of a contentious plan for a nuclear power plant could soon be owned by the state.

The Natural Resources Board will be asked to approve the purchase of 990 acres along the Lower Chippewa River in Dunn County, southwest of Eau Claire, at its meeting on Aug. 3 in Ashland.

The Department of Natural Resources would pay $2,080,155 for the property, which is owned by Xcel Energy, the Minneapolis-based utility that has a large service area in the region.

Ken Notes: Both the buying and selling of DNR properties could present a huge opportunity for tourism by allowing the development of smaller affordable cabins and micro homes in the state. The middle class is in need of affordable options to Escape to Wisconsin... I miss this slogan by the way...
