State`s environmental giants would be horrified today


Wisconsin`s history is dotted with the names of conservation and environmental pioneers.

There was John Muir, the man responsible for the creation of the National Park System and the founder of the Sierra Club, who began his campaign to preserve America`s beauty while a student at the UW-Madison.

Aldo Leopold, a UW faculty member, became known as one of the world`s greatest conservationists. Sig Olson worked to preserve the wilderness areas in northern Wisconsin. Madison`s John Nolen convinced legislators and city halls of the importance of setting aside parkland for all the people to use.

Ken Notes: We need a plan to change this, instead we point fingers and say shame. We need to establish a profit motive for sound environmental practice, it is there but we are to busy looking at other issues when businesses would actually be wiling to help...
