2 Television recycling costs weigh heavy on state law


A Thursday afternoon trip to a Levittown recycling company is not the first time Jim Lutz has recycled a television set. The drop-off at E-Waste Experts on Green Lane in Bristol did mark the first time Lutz had to pay for someone to take the outdated appliance off his hands.

"I don't know if we should have to pay for it," said Lutz. "I have a trash bill that I pay for every year with my taxes. I would think the trash company should take it; it is trash. It's a concern municipalities need to have for their residents."

The Bristol resident has a neighbor that figured out one answer to the television recycling conundrum — taking out the guts and turning the TV into a fish tank. For the rest of Bucks County residents left with a heavy, bulky block of technology that nobody wants, the options have disappeared.

Ken Notes: It is almost too late to realize that many of these ended up in our landfill sites already. But there are still many in our basements and people debate, should I pay or just find a big bag. We need a far better educational program here....
