Enbridge Pipeline Expansion Study Draws Mixed Response At Public Hearings


The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources held public hearings in Superior Thursday evening regarding an energy firm’s plans to expand their oil pipeline network.

Canadian firm Enbridge Energy is proposing to send up to 225,000 barrels per day from the Bakken oil fields to Clearbrook, Minn., and 375,000 barrels of oil per day from Clearbrook to Superior through its Sandpiper pipeline. The company also wants to replace segments of its aging Line 3. Construction of each project on the U.S. side would cost just under $3 billion. Ken Notes: I have met with a few property owners who have said they did not get what the were told regarding their land use for the current line. How can we establish a property rights advocacy group that can deal with these companies without having to hire a lawyer and enter an unsympathetic court system.
